Re: apology to hseamons |
Hey, thanks jerlouvis. I appreciate the kind words. No hard feelings. I suppose some of my heavy outburst yesterday was in part the result of feeling somewhat ridiculed by a few heavy-handed remarks over the months...years...but I have learned to take everything said here with a grain of salt and/or humor and separate the chaff from the wheat. Luckily I have built up enough esteem to not cry over anything...well, except for when I started crying yesterday. But it's all water under the bridge now, as part of the great river of IA forum life. And so, in closing, I will leave you with some recent, inspirational words spoken that seem to fit what I am trying to say best:
"What I do want to tell you today is, thank you...I celebrate...[tears]...I celebrate the fact that today [after four years of meeting on these forums] I can with full confidence come to you and just say those two words: thank you. Thank you for not being...[sigh]...thank you for me never doubting that you are not driven by blind hatred, or motivated by rage. I don't have to tell you not to kick your drink on somebody's wife's back. You'd never do it. I know who you are...Thank you."

Re: apology to hseamons |
I don't know that we've interacted before, but I recall having a "discussion" about this general notion with Charlie Miller, and my two cents worth for him, and by extension, you, would be that like anyone in the "creative arts biz" (a stretch, but sure you'll agree there's some similarity), you "should" do all of this for you, and you alone, with the sharing (and associated good/bad responses) as a "bonus".
Charlie didn't like it, and you may not either. I appreciate that "shoulds" are always dangerous discussion points, and I certainly have no special status to provide such comments with any more authority than the next twit round here.
In the end, my point is the positive and negative feedback more or less comes with the territory.
Hang in there...

Re: apology to hseamons |
The next twit takes the stage...
I take your point that the artist should ideally follow his/her muse and not the ker-ching of the cash register and the uncritical accolades of the great unwashed, but it's a rare kind of toiler at the coalface of creativity who doesn't want to see their efforts rewarded, or at least acknowledged, in some way. Anyone pretending otherwise is just being disingenuous or naive.
Pertaining to our discussions elsewhere, and with regard to subsequent postings, maybe whacked wasn't so far off the mark after all...

Absofrickinlootly.
IE, my advice, in the abstract, isn't something I take all that often myself (re: I am more sensitive than most...if you don't say that post of mine was the best you've read, well...you ain't seen whacked just yet!).
I just like saying it cause everyone always spouts off about why they are creative sorts, and then they complain about anything that isn't positive feedback when the reality is you have to more or less expect it when producing the product.
For just the reason you pt out, I'd have changed career paths long ago if I hadn't been lucky (good?) enough to get the requisite pats on the back to keep me going!

Re:no apology from hseamons |
What a bizarre display yesterday and today. Tedious.
Where are Charlie's, one of the GEMS folks or Josh Braveman's complaints about how I commented about their sources? Should no one use your sources if they are going to comment on them publicly? (Unless they are glowing praise, I'm sure.)
Melodramatic waste of my time.

Re: Isn't it grand to let off steam! |
Are you really as mean as I've heard?
So mean you're fit to be tied?
Or just tired of the same ol' fit?
Ill-fitted, with a tiresome tie?
Tried to review, tried to be new,
But just tedious, odious and splue?
;)
(with apologies to you know who...I just can't paraphrase worth a snot...and no, I don't think you're mean [Rob induced, redundant qualifier])
Here's someone that's happy:

I know WT, and you are most gracious.
You did hit the target. Maybe winged it, w/
"Or just tired of the same ol' fit?"
Precious insight. ;-)
